550 7th st – micro update!

I’ve been super stressed and wanted to work this morning... but instead we walked over to @rootandbloomcafe where we wrapped ourselves in blankets, ate a delicious vegan breakfast and drank yummy coffee on Buffalo’s most beautiful patio. Very well done, @rootandbloomcafe . What I wasn’t expecting was the gentle reminder of what really matters in life - the sweet man by my side, sweet moments like this and the sweet little life we have together. I’ll love you forever, @drwbrwn .

Today I was the Acting Chairwoman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Buffalo! As the youngest member of the zoning board for the second largest city in NYS, I hold the second highest seniority. Funny, huh? (Patience is a virtue! Persistence is key!) 👊🏼 My tenure has been a wild ride the last few years as we have focused on implementing our new form based zoning code: the Buffalo Green Code. We threw out the “Elvis” zoning code (from when he was alive!) that separated uses and focused on the automobile...and now we have the most progressive zoning code in the country! How lucky are we?! The Green Code is easy to read and focused on walkable, transit oriented development. It’s all about form - legalizing our historic urban fabric and encouraging more of it to be built. I couldn’t ask for a nerdier yet incredibly dreamy job... and using my #urbanplanning degree is pretty cool, too. (Feels better paying off those student loans!) Also, it felt good wearing my new @everlane blazer - I felt like a BOSS. 🔥 ps. One day soon @littlewheelhustle will be able to design, write and implement zoning codes in small towns and cities. Today is my monthly zoning board of appeals meeting! Today I will be the acting chair while the current chairman is away. Exciting! #artdecobeauty #cityhall #zoning #urbanism #buffalogreencode
