Death Cab for Cutie!

This is a giant check off from my bucket list. This band has a very special spot in my heart and it took place in such a historic and incredible building.

Day 5 – California Vacation!

Day 5 included Justice, Calvin Harris, Florence and the machine and Snoop dog! The hologram tupac was out of control! Sad to see that coachella is over… Ran into two amazing friends from the desert – alondra and alan!

Eric and I had a great time at the festival overall. Great bands. Lots of sun and heat. No sunburn. Just a slight heat rash. We stayed hydrated too!

Trico Meetings This Week!

There are THREE important preservation meetings this week that are happening for Trico!

Wednesday, April 18th – BYP happy hour at Ulrichs Tavern. A letter writing session will be set up to write to common council members and the mayor. Should be exciting! 7pm start.

Thursday, April 19th @ 1pm – trico reuse study meeting. Location is TBD. Basically this will be a group of people coming together to discuss an adaptive reuse plan for trico. Although I am not sure how effective this meeting will be, I do see the value in attending and getting an idea of where Trico is headed. Doug swift is now in charge of creating a reuse study for trico and he has a very good preservation reputation in Buffalo. I think that the more people who want to preserve the building that are there, the more that can help to drive the preservation agenda forward.

Tuesday April 24th @2pm – LOCAL LANDMARK HEARING!!!! City hall! The common council needs to hear from the public on why trico should be locally landmarked. Everyone must attend if they can! This is very very important. If it is locally landmarked, we can fight a demolition request!

Go Trico!

California here I come!

I am currently on my way to California!
I am heading to the desert to see family, friends and go to the Coachella
music festival. I’m excited. It has been 2 years since I’ve been back to the desert and has been the longest time I haven’t visited since I moved back to Buffalo.

I will be sending photos along.. It will most likely be of weird/terrible urban planning mistakes… Haha or of the beautiful desert landscape…

Palm Desert is a weird place with only a handful of local establishments and very few things accessible without a car. It has a stucco/generic feeling to it but the mountains and scenic views can be quite impressive. I do enjoy being able to navigate based on mountain ranges, it’s topography is something I miss since Buffalo is so flat!!

Well, it should be an amazing time and I am thrilled to have a vacation. I didn’t bring a laptop with me but obviously have my phone. I also brought IMAGE OF THE CITY, a book on cities by Kevin Lynch. Always has been a great and inspiring read for me. I’m looking forward to reading by the pool as I attempt to get a tan!

Anyhow, California here I come!

The Great Migration!

Yep, the great migration has been confirmed! This idea is something I have been preaching about for years now… The theory of a great migration of people moving back into the cities because of easy transportation access and availability of needs within walking distance. The article (below) explains a lot on the great migration and this whole city concept.

Although some may think I’m crazy for hating commutes and cars and wanting to work from a coffee shop, this article really shows the shift of thought and want from my generation! Love it.
